Pablo Sandoval hit three consecutive home runs on three consecutive at bats on Tuesday night. The first two against Detroit Tiger ace Justin Verlander, as the San Francisco Giants went on to defeat Detroit 8-3 in game 1 of the World Series. Sandoval joind the group of Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols as the only Major Leaguers to do it in the Series. Barry Zito pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing just one run on six hits for the win, while also hitting a RBI single in the fourth inning. The Tigers finally got on the board in the sixth inning when Triple Crown Winner Miguel Cabrera singled in a run. Lucky bounces also went the Giants way all night long. Angel Pagan hit a double when the ball skipped off of the third-base bag, and Delmon Young didn't run on a tapper at home plate that turned into a double play catching Prince Fielder on his way to second base. The Giants bullpen was strong allowing only two runs when Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off reliever George Kontos. Jim Leyland decided to give Jose Valverde a chance to pitch after an 11 day lay-off iart.n the seventh inning. Valverde struck out Tim Lincecum and then proceeded to give up four hits and two runs. Detroit hopes to shake off the cobwebs in Game 2 on Thusday night when they send Doug Fister(0-0, 1.35) to the mound to face Madison Bumgarner (0-2, 11.25) for a 8:00 PM start.
