Verlander still winless vs. Royals as Detroit falls to KC, 4-3

Salvador Perez's two-run homerun in the 6th inning was the difference as the Detroit Tigers were defeated by the Kansas City Royals, 4-3. And due to Cleveland defeating the N.Y. Mets, 9-4, Detroit's magic number in the AL Central division remains at 16.

Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs, giving him 133 for the season and starting pitcher Justin Verlander pitched seven innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out seven on 114 pitches.

The Tigers will wrap up the 3-game weekend series with the Royals this Sunday afternoon at 2 pm in Kansas City before heading to Chicago to face their division rival White Sox.
