Tigers defeat Mariners, 5-4; L.A. Dodgers win NL West

Prince Fielder scored twice from first base and finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and scored the winning run in the Detroit Tigers' 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park.

Torii Hunter hit his 17th homerun in the 1st inning and Victor Martinez finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister (13-9) struck out 10 batters over 7 & 2⁄3 innings. Fister established a career-high in strikeouts for the season with 151, besting his previous record of 146 in 2011.

Despite Cleveland defeating Houston, 2-1, Detroit's magic number in the AL Central Division is now down to 4. The Tigers' pursuit of the title continues this weekend with a 3-game series against the Chicago White Sox. The first game will be this Friday night at 7 pm inside Comerica Park.

The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team this season to clinch a playoff spot with Hanley Ramirez homering twice as they rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-6, to become the 2013 National League West Division Champions.


AL EAST - Boston down to 1 after defeating Baltimore & Tampa Bay losing to Texas
NL EAST - Atlanta remains at 2 after Washington defeated Miami, 3-2, while they had the day off
AL WEST - Oakland down to 4 after defeating Minnesota & Texas defeating Tampa Bay
NL WILD CARD - Pittsburgh & Cincinnati remain at 5 after Washington defeated Miami, 3-2
NL CENTRAL - St. Louis remains at 9 after losing to Colorado & Pittsburgh defeating San Diego
