Wild pitch leads to Alvarez's no-hitter as Tigers lose finale, 1-0

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 9th inning, Tigers right-hander Luke Putkonen threw a wild pitch, allowing Miami's Giancarlo Stanton to score from third base as the Marlins shutout Detroit, 1-0, making the no-hitter official for Henderson Alvarez.

It was the 14th time the Tigers have been no-hit and it came against a lineup that was missing the top three regulars as they rest up for the postseason – Austin Jackson, Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera.

With the regular season now over, the Tigers will head to Oakland to play the Athletics in a 5-game American League Divisional Series, which is set to begin this Friday.

All three teams (Cleveland, Tampa Bay, & Texas) won, which means the Indians clinched the first wild card spot while the Rays & Rangers are tied for the second. Before the postseason can officially begin, Game #163 will be played this Monday night at 8 pm as Texas host Tampa Bay in Arlington. The winner will then travel to Cleveland to play in the AL Wild Card Game on Wednesday.
