Titans go past Youngstown St. 91-79

Post  Admin on Wed Feb 16, 2011 10:53 pm

The Detroit Titans' last regular season home game showed head coach Ray McCallum that his team is ready for the Horizon League Tournament in March, winning 91-79 over Youngstown State. Detroit was in control early shooting over 57% while their defense held the Penguins to just 31% from the field.

All five Titan starters were in double digits with Nick Minnerath leading Detroit with 24 points while Ray McCallum Jr. had a double double with 14 points & 10 rebounds. Chase Simon also contributed to the win with 17 points & 7 rebounds.

The Titans (15-14, 9-8 HL) will now head to Des Moines, Iowa to face the Bulldogs of Drake University for an 8 pm showdown on BracketBuster Saturday. Next Saturday, Detroit will play their final regular season game in Dayton, OH against the Wright State Raiders before the HL Tournament begins. Currently, the Titans are in 6th place and there is a very good chance that Detroit will host a first round game at Calihan Hall on Tuesday, March 1st. Detroit can lock in the 6th seed with any Green Bay loss within their remaining 3 HL games or move up to a #5 seed with a win over Wright State next Saturday.

Calihan Hall will play host to another Detroit-Youngstown State game as the women will do battle this Thursday night at 7 pm.
