Carolina hangs on to defeat Seattle; Denver eliminates Pittsburgh

Post  Admin on Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:32 pm

Jonathan Stewart, returning from a foot injury, scored two touchdowns after kicking off the game with a 59-yard run on Carolina's first play as the Panthers held on long enough to defeat the Seattle Seahawks, 31-24. Carolina had a 31-0 lead at halftime before Seattle methodically came back to tighten the game up. Carolina will remain home to host Arizona in the NFC Championship next Sunday evening at 6:30 pm. It will be the first meeting since the Panthers beat the Cardinals, 27-16, in the 2014 NFC Wild Card game.

On a very windy night, the Denver Broncos pulled a late charge to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-16, in the AFC Divisional playoff game. Denver's quarterback Peyton Manning completed 21-of-37 passes for 222 yards, including five to Emmanuel Sanders for 85 yards. The Broncos have advanced to host the AFC Championship against the New England Patriots, which begins next Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.
