Starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed only two runs and four hits in seven innings as the Detroit Tigers won their fifth consecutive game by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2.

Verlander (8-6) struck out eight batters and walked one for Detroit as he improved to 5-2 in eight starts at Tropicana Field. Justin Wilson pitched the 8th inning before Francisco Rodriguez got the final three outs to earn his 23rd save.

The Tigers look to complete a four-game sweep this Sunday afternoon at 1 pm against the Rays, who have now lost for the 15th time in 17 games.
