Tigers move into wild card spot after DH sweep of Twins

Post  Admin on Fri Sep 23, 2016 2:49 am

After winning 9-2 earlier in the day, the Detroit Tigers, led by starting pitcher Justin Verlander, completed the doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins, 4-2. Verlander tied a season-high with 11 strikeouts to help the Tigers go 9-0 in Minnesota this season.

Thanks in part to a Baltimore loss, Detroit moved into the second AL wild card spot and trail Toronto by only one game for the first wild card spot.

With a week remaining in the regular season, the Tigers enter a crucial 3-game weekend series with Kansas City in hopes of, at least, staying in the playoff picture. The first game is set for 7 pm at Comerica Park.
