Tigers pushed to the edge after loss to Atlanta, 5-3

Post  Admin on Sun Oct 02, 2016 9:17 am

Freddie Freeman & Nick Markakis homered and rookie pitcher Aaron Blair had a career-high 10 strikeouts as the last-place Atlanta Braves damaged the Detroit Tigers' playoff hopes with a 5-3 victory.

Trying to return to the postseason after missing out last year, the Tigers dropped 1 & 1/2 games out of the second AL wild card spot. Detroit (86-74) needs to win Sunday AND have Toronto or Baltimore lose to avoid elimination.

The Tigers will start Justin Verlander against Atlanta this Sunday at 1 pm, but they can only hope a potential home makeup game Monday against Cleveland would still give them an opportunity to get involved in a wild-card tiebreaker.
