GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS - 2017 NBA CHAMPIONS

Post  Admin on Thu Jun 15, 2017 7:42 pm

"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." After being heavily criticized for leaving Oklahoma City to a team that beat him a year ago, Kevin Durant made that phrase a reality by becoming MVP in his first season with Golden State by bringing home the coveted NBA championship, scoring 39 points in helping the Warriors to a 129-120 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5.

Outside of Durant and a few others, the rest of Golden State earned the right to become 2-time NBA champions. Stephen Curry added 34 points, 10 assists, & six rebounds, Andre Iguodala, the 2015 Finals MVP, came up with his 2017 postseason-best 20 points off the bench, and Michigan State alumni Draymond Green, who was wrongfully suspended last year because of a 'flagrant foul', finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, & five assists.

Even assistant coach Mike Brown, who help Cleveland get to their first ever NBA Finals before being thrown under the bus, got redemption in bringing the title back to the Warriors. Despite being denied the ultimate sweep in sports history, they still finished 16-1, thus having the best winning percentage of any title team at .941 and also becoming the first Bay Area team to capture a championship at home since the MLB's Oakland Athletics finished off the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the 1974 World Series.

After celebrating with a huge parade in Oakland, California, one more piece of business awaits: the 2017 NBA Draft, which will take place Thursday, June 22nd at 7 pm.
