Tigers swept away by the Seattle Mariners, 7-2

After sweeping the Chicago White Sox last weekend, the Tigers found themselves on the receiving end of one this week. Mariners' starting pitcher Michael Pineda struck out nine in six sharp innings, and Miguel Olivo & Luis Rodriguez each homered to help the Seattle Mariners beat Detroit, 7-2 for a three-game sweep of the Tigers. The Mariners outscored Detroit 24-6 in the series.

Detroit didn’t put a ball in play off Pineda until Brennan Boesch doubled in the second inning. Ryan Raburn followed with a walk, and Alex Avila drove both runners in with a double, but the lead didn’t last.

The Tigers, tied for 2nd place in the AL Central (12-13), will look to break out of their slump this weekend when they travel to Cleveland to face their divison rival Indians (16-8 / 1st place). The series is set to begin Friday night at 7 pm.
