The last SmackDown of 2010 started off with Vickie Guerrero complaining about "vertigo sickness" after the altercation she had with John Cena on Raw. Afterwards, Kofi Kingston & Jack Swagger confronted the Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler about the conclusion of his title match at TLC. Before things got out of hand, General Manager Theodore Long announced that there would be a triple threat match for the IC title later that night.

The Big Show took on "Dashing" Cody Rhodes in what seemed like a one-sided match. Before the Big Show could give him the knockout punch, Cody left the ring & took a countout loss in order to save his face.

In another one-on-one match, Drew McIntyre wrestled Trent Barretta. Suprisingly, it was a decent match until Barretta went for a high-risk move to the outside of the ring and landed hard on the back of his head & spine after Drew moved out of the way. The referee stopped the match, awarding McIntrye the victory, but to add insult to injury, Drew gave Barretta the future shock DDT on the floor, making sure he would be out for a good while.

In tag team action, World Heavyweight Champion Edge & Rey Mysterio took on Alberto Del Rio & Kane. A very competitive match until Edge & Rey knocked Kane to the outsde, allowing Alberto to suffer the 619 & the spear. After Edge & Rey Mysterio were victorious, GM Teddy Long announced, during his New Year's party, that there would be two main events for the 1st SmackDown of 2011: Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio in a 2 out of 3 falls match & Edge vs. Kane for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Last Man Standing match!

In divas tag team action, Lay-Cool took on Divas champion Natalya & Beth Phoenix in a match that went back & worth. But in the end, after Natalya took down Layla, Beth Phoenix delivered the glam slam on Michelle McCool & achieved victory for her team.

In the main event for the Intercontinental Championship, the match between Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston & Jack Swagger was very competitive. Towards the end, Kofi delivered his trouble in paradise kick to Swagger & went for a pin, but Vickie Guerrero put Swagger's foot on the ropes, in order to not have Dolph lose the title. Moments later, as Kofi was about to pin Swagger again, Dolph rolled him up from behind, hooked the tights, and escaped 2010 still the Intercontinental champion.
