Long night for Tigers as they give game away to Indians, 3-2

The game started at 7 pm on Tuesday. It ended at 1:52 in the morning as the Detroit Tigers let the Cleveand Indians win, 3-2, in 14 innings.

The loss came as a result of Tigers' reliever David Pauley hit Kosuke Fukodome on the arm with a bases-loaded, one-out pitch. Pauley intentionally walked Carlos Santana to load the bases, then beaned Fukodome, resulting in the Tigers’ 12th straight loss at Progressive Field.

The game included a two-hour rain delay between the second and third innings. The starting pitchers — Doug Fister and the Indians’ Justin Materson — didn’t return after the delay. The bullpens matched scoreless innings from the third through the 13th. Even not counting the rain delay, it was by far the Tigers’ longest game by time this season (4 hours & 43 minutes).

With the loss, the 1st-place Tigers now lead the Indians by three games in the AL Central.

The bright side to the night was Tigers reliever Duane Below, who pitched four perfect innings. Since moving to the bullpen last week, Below has retired all 22 hitters he’s faced.
