Tigers acquire outfielder Delmon Young from the Twins

The Detroit Tigers announced the club has acquired outfielder Delmon Young from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for lefthanded pitcher Cole Nelson and a player to be named later on or before October 15, 2011.

Young hit .266 with 16 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBI in 84 games with the Twins this season. In 29 games following the all-star break this season, he is hitting .286 with eight doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI.

Young saw action in 153 games with the Twins during the 2010 season, batting .298 with 46 doubles, a triple, 21 home runs and 112 RBI. Selected by the Tampa Bay Rays with the first overall pick in the 2003 MLB First-Year Player Draft, he is hitting .289 with 153 doubles, eight triples, 63 home runs and 376 RBI in 689 games at the major league level with Tampa Bay (2006-07) and Minnesota (2008-11).
