Tigers tie ALDS at one vs. Yankees, 5-3 in Game 2

Before the rain could make a mess of Game 2, much like it did for Game 1 this past weekend, the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees, 5-3, who evened the best-of-five AL playoff series at one game apiece.

Miguel Cabrera’s two-run homerun in the 1st inning off Freddy Garcia gave Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer an early edge, and the Tigers took a 4-0 lead into the eighth.

Making his postseason debut, the 27-year-old Scherzer excelled. He gave up two hits, struck out five and walked four. He was lifted for Jaoquin Benoit with a 4-0 lead after allowing a walk & a single to Jorge Posada to open the 7th inning as ominous clouds settled over the ballpark.

Tigers starter Max Scherzer pitched no-hit ball into the sixth before New York's Robinson Cano blooped an opposite-field single to left.

Jonathan Lucroy drove in the go-ahead run with a bunt as the Milwaukee Brewers broke away from the Arizona Diamondbacks, 9-4 to take control of their NL division series. The Brewers now hold a 2-0 lead in a postseason series for the first time in franchise history and will go for the sweep when Shaun Marcum takes on rookie Josh Collmenter in Game 3 in Arizona on Tuesday.

Albert Pujols hit a go-ahead single in the 7th inning after Cliff Lee blew a four-run lead as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied past the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4 to even their NL playoff matchup at one game each. The NLDS now shifts to St. Louis for Game 3 on Tuesday. Philadelphia's Cole Hamels will be the third straight All-Star pitcher to face the Cardinals, who’ll send Jaime Garcia to the mound.
